I have been doing a lot of research into the history of ghost photography and the sudden change of the general shape and look of the apparitions in after the dawn of the digital camera.

Even in the earliest days of photography until modern times there has been some sort of unexplained percentage of ghost photographs. Starting with the earliest images on glass plates we have seen shapes that resemble human forms and shapes.

Now in the dawn of the digital age we have seen a new form take shape. With the introduction of the digital camera we now have orbs. The question that I have asked many experts in the field is why the sudden change in the look of the spirits in the photographs.

I have discovered that many of the orbs that appear in photographs can be easily duplicated or can be explained with simple technical answers about the digital technology.

Many People think that this
is a "vortex" also known
as a portal. This is actually
a camera strap in front of the
lens.

This is an image that many people would
consider to be a "Orb" photograph.
The photo is actually a photo of
water drops/mist in front of the camera.

I have been in the field of photography for 17 years and have 11 years of photographic lab experience, and all of this time I have seen many camera, film, and photographer errors. Looking at the majority of the ghost photos on the internet I can say that most of the images can be easily explained by these kind of errors.

The new idea that digital cameras can capture better images of spirits causes me to point out several faults with the digital technology.  The consumer level cameras have a very low resolution compared to traditional film. The digital enthusiasts that insist that they only want the images for the Internet will commonly explain this away. This is a good excuse until you have the need to actually examine the image. The cameras also have several natural problems that can be confused with paranormal events, such as any tight patterns such as plaid shirts, trees, or similar patterns can cause a unusual effect the same way a television camera does. If an image is moving fast enough you can get a screen burn similar to a video camera. The other problem that I Feel can account for a lot of these images, is that most of the cameras can be affected by outside sources such as, Radio frequency radiation (i.e. power lines, microwaves, other electronic devices such as other digital cameras & video cameras ) and they also can have a pixel breakdown that can cause noise and orbs due to too long or too short of exposure. This effect is similar to reciprocity failure of traditional films.

I think that we all need to take a close look at our photographs and decide what is really a possible spirit
And not just jump to conclusions that everything that we don't know is always a ghost.

But sometimes when you just can't find an answer, just might a really good unexplained ghost photo.
